On Monday, November 11, Team India Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir addressed the pre-departure press conference in Mumbai. Prior to leaving for the highly-anticipated five-match Test series against Australia, the former India cricketer made some bold decisions including, confirming pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah to lead the side in Perth Test if Rohit Sharma is unavailable and KL Rahul to open in his absence.
However, all these decisions rest well seeing the combinations and the experience, in an interesting observation, former India cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar was left unimpressed with Gambhir. The former batter pointed out at Gambhir’s demeanour, asking the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ban him to appear in press conferences.
Sanjay Manjrekar wants BCCI to keep Gambhir away from attending pressers
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the cricketer-turned commentator pointed out how the Indian head coach presented himself. “Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for @BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He does not have the right demeanour nor the words when interacting with them. Rohit & Agarkar, much better guys to front up for the media,” Sanjay Manjrekar captioned the post on X.
Furthermore, the 59-year-old suggested that they should tell either Rohit Sharma or Ajit Agarkar to serve these duties. However, what exactly irked Manjrekar to make such comments is unknown, but if it is to be believed it could either be Gambhir’s remarks on transition or his comments, hitting out at former Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
