Michael Neser doubtful for BGT 2024-25; ruled out of Australia A with hamstring injury

Australia fast bowler Michael Neser has been ruled out of the ongoing Australia A match against India A, underway at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. The Aussie pacer, who scalped four wickets on the opening day of the ongoing unofficial second Test, was forced to leave the field with a hamstring injury.

This news has come as a blow for the Australian team, with the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy set to commence from November 22 in Perth.  Speaking of Neser’s injury, the pacer pulled up sharply following his second delivery of the 13th over. He was quick to leave the field of play, limping. A Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson later in the day confirmed while speaking to ESPNcricinfo that Neser will not feature in the remaining match.

The 34-year-old pacer had experienced soreness in the same hamstring after his last Sheffield Shield match, which took place on October 23. The injury struggles led him to miss the domestic One-Day Cup game against South Australia and he is now set to miss the unofficial Test against India A. Furthermore, Neser is set to undergo scans in order to determine the severity of the injury.

With CA yet to announce its squad for the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Michael Neser is unlikely to be named for the Perth Test, starting on November 22. Scott Boland, Sean Abbott and Nathan McAndrew are likely to be the potential options if Australia look at other fast bowling options supporting Micthell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.
