On This Day: Australia’s fast bowling legend Brett Lee was born in 1976

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee is celebrating his 48th birthday on November 8, 2024. Widely regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of his time, Brett Lee was known for his swinging deliveries, which used to clock the speed of above 155 kph. The right-arm pacer is considered among the best Aussie bowlers in Test cricket with 310 wickets in 76 Test matches of his career. He also a part of the Australian team that won the Cricket World Cup in 2003, and Champions Trophy in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

Brett Lee has played 221 ODIs and 25 T20I matches for Australia, taking 408 wickets combined in the limited-overs cricket. He has also played franchise cricket for different teams including Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, New South Wales, Sydney Sixers, and more. Lee announced his retirement from international cricket in 2012 with 718 wickets in all three formats combined.

Fastest to 350 ODI wickets: Brett Lee is also the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone of 350 wickets in ODI cricket. The fast bowler achieved the feat in his 202nd ODI innings against Sri Lanka in 2011.
