3 football clubs and 24 players banned in match-fixing scandal in Mizoram

The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has banned 24 players and three club officials in recent development related to the match-fixing scandal in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League. The MFA did an extensive investigation with the help of local law enforcement after finding out about the match-fixing scandal in the recently ended football tournament in the state.

Three football clubs including the likes of  Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC have been handed a three-year ban, along with the three match officials, who are alleged for manipulating the outcome of the matches. Along with these, the MFA has also imposed lifetime bans on two players, five-year bans on four players, three-year bans on 10 footballers, and one-year ban on eight men who are allegedly involved in match-fixing scandal. 

MFA take strict actions after Mizoram football match-fixing scandal

In their recent statement, Mizoram Football Association confirmed the ban on 24 players and three football clubs who were allegedly involved in the match-fixing scandal in Mizoram Premier League. One of the banned clubs, Sihphir Venghlun FC finished in top four during the tournament before losing in the semi-final against the eventual champions Aizawl FC. 

“It has come to the notice of the Mizoram Football Association, after investigations with local law enforcement agencies that certain clubs, officials and players in the recently concluded MPL-11 had indulged in acts of corruption, for which they have been penalized after careful deliberations,” MFA said in a statement as quoted by India Today.

“These activities involving a few miscreants represent a severe breach of our values, undermine the integrity of our sport and disrespect the fans who passionately support Mizoram Football,” read the MFA statement. As a consequence of these findings, we have imposed strict penalties on those involved,” the state football body further added.
