This is an average Man Utd team: Roy Keane’s stern verdict after 1-1 draw vs Chelsea at Old Trafford

Roy Keane, the former captain of Manchester United, gave a stern verdict on the club’s current stature, calling them an “average team” after they earned a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Old Trafford in the Premier League. The 53-year-old, who is not one to hold back on his opinions, also remarked that the incoming manager Ruben Amorim should have signed a longer contract, to turn around the fortunes of Manchester United.

Notably, after the sacking of Erik ten Hag recently, Manchester United signed the Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim on a contract until June 2027, and he is due to join the club as head coach on November 11. In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently managing Manchester United on an interim basis, and under his watch, they earned a valuable point in the Premier League after Bruno Fernandes’ penalty was cancelled out by Moises Caicedo’s sensational strike.

Manchester United are hit and miss – you never know which team will turn up: Roy Keane

In his latest interview with Sky Sports after the conclusion of Manchester United’s battle with Chelsea at the Old Trafford, Roy Keane spoke about the team’s performances and how they approach games as a unit. He was quoted as saying, “This is an average Manchester United team. All the stats back that up. They are hit and miss – you never know which team will turn up. Not good. ‘Boring’ seems a bit strong but they lack conviction. It’s really disappointing. It’s so flat. This team is way off it, getting back in the top four.”

Roy Keane also addressed the prospect of Ruben Amorim’s arrival to Manchester United as the head coach, talking about how the Portuguese has a big task on his hands, to bring the club out of their current slump. He remarked, “He (Ruben Amorim) should have signed a longer contract. There is a long way back for this team.”

Manchester United are currently in 13th place in the Premier League with 12 points after 10 matches, which is their worst start in the English top flight since the 1980s.
