Where’s hotspot?: AB de Villiers questions Rishabh Pant’s dismissal in third Test vs New Zealand

India suffered a shocking 0-3 Test series defeat at home after losing the third Test against New Zealand by 25 runs in Mumbai on Sunday, November 3.  However, former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers came up with a controversial post on his social media after dismissal of Rishabh Pant on day three of the Test match. Pant was the top scorer for India in the second innings, scoring 64 runs off 57 balls.

India had a poor start while chasing a target of 147 runs on day three, as the hosts lost five wickets for just 29 runs. After that, Rishabh Pant took charge of the innings and scored a fighting half-century where rest of the Indian batters failed to cross even 20 runs. The wicketkeeper-batter was looking set to take India down the line before he was dismissed by Ajaz Patel at the score of 106 runs.

AB de Villiers shares controversial post after Rishabh Pant’s dismissal

After Rishabh Pant attempted to play a shot on Ajaz Patel’s delivery, he was caught by wicketkeeper Tom Blundell. Although, it was not out at first by the on field umpire, after New Zealand took a review, the third umpire confirmed that the ball made a contact with the bat and Pant was given out. Reacting to this, AB de Villiers, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his thoughts on the dismissal and demanded for an Hotspot technology.

“Controversy! Little grey area once again. Did Pant get bat on that or not? Problem is when the ball passes the bat at exactly the same time a batter hits his pad snicko will pick up the noise. But how sure are we he hit it? I’ve always worried about this and here it happens at a huge moment in a big Test match. Where’s hotspot?!” De Villiers wrote on X.
