WATCH: Cody Rhodes defeats Gunther to become first-ever WWE Crown Jewel Champion

Cody Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, defeated Gunther, the World Heavyweight Champion, in a champion versus champion match to become the first-ever WWE Crown Jewel Champion in the main event of the PLE at the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It led to Cody Rhodes getting awarded with the WWE Crown Jewel Championship title inside the ring before receiving the Crown Jewel ring in the backstage area.

The main event of the latest WWE PLE saw Cody Rhodes getting pitted against Gunther, to earn the right to become the first-ever Crown Jewel champion. The build-up to the champion versus champion match was quite a heated one between Cody Rhodes and Gunther, and it didn’t take them much time to bring that intensity to Saudi Arabia.

Cody Rhodes reversed the Gojira Clutch to pin Gunther at WWE Crown Jewel

The back-and-forth affair between two of the top champions in the men’s division of the WWE kept the fans at the Mohammed Abdo Arena on the edge of their seats right till the very end. In the closing exchanges, Gunther looked to put Cody Rhodes to sleep with the Gojira Clutch, but the American Nightmare countered in the nick of time with a reversal, to earn a pinfall victory.

Following the conclusion of the high-octane champion versus champion match, Gunther shook hands with Cody Rhodes before telling him that they run WWE. The Chief Content Officer (CCO) Triple H and the Saudi Arabian officials came inside the ring shortly after, to award the American Nightmare with the Crown Jewel championship title, the first of its kind in WWE history.

After the PLE at the Mohammed Abdo Arena came to a close, Cody Rhodes also received the WWE Crown Jewel ring in the presence of Triple H and the Saudi Arabian officials.
