Players with highest individual scores in Border-Gavaskar Trophy: India vs Australia Test series

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 is around the corner and we will see intense contest with both bat and ball. India are scheduled to play five Test matches against Australia, starting from November 22. Some players went on to shatter all records to achieve the highest score in Test matches among both teams. 7. MS Dhoni – 224 Runs

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni scored his only double hundred during a Test match against Australia in Chennai in February 2013. Dhoni led from the front in Chennai Test in 2013 and went on to score 224(265) runs, his knock including 24 fours and six sixes, as India took a 192-run lead in the first innings. The hosts went on to win the match comfortably by 8 wickets. 

6. Rahul Dravid – 233 Runs

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Dravid turned out to be a hero in India’s famous win against Australia in Adelaide in 2003. The right-hander scored 233(446) runs in his innings, which included 23 fours and a six, as India posted 523 in reply to Australia’s 556 in the first innings. After that, Dravid again scored an unbeaten 72*(170) runs in the second innings as India defeated Australia by 4 wickets.

5. Sachin Tendulkar – 241 Runs

Sachin Tendulkar came with one of his special knocks in a Test match against Australia Sydney in January 2004. The right-hander scored 241*(436) runs with 33 boundaries and not a single one on the on-side. India posted a mammoth 705/7 and took a lead of 231 runs in the first innings. However, the Test match ended in a draw.

4. Ricky Ponting – 242 Runs

Australia’s Ricky Ponting scored a double century in a losing cause against India in Adelaide Test in 2003. The right-hander scored 242(352) runs with 31 boundaries as Australia posted 556 in the first innings. However, the hosts lost the match by four wickets.

3. Ricky Ponting – 257 Runs

Ricky Ponting shone with another double hundred against India in Melbourne in December 2003 and guided his team to victory. Ponting scored 257(458) runs with 25 boundaries as Australia took a lead of 192 runs in the first innings and eventually won the match comfortably by 9 wickets. 

2. VVS Laxman – 281 Runs

VVS Laxman came up with one of the greatest Test knocks for India in a match against Australia at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in March 2001. After getting enforced to follow-on trailing by 274 runs in first innings, India went on to script one of the greatest comebacks in Test cricket, with VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. Laxman scored 281(452) runs along with Dravid’s 18–run knock as India set a target of 384 runs for Australia and went on to win the match by 171 runs. 

1. Michael Clarke – 329* Runs

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has record for highest individual score in Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is the only player to score a triple hundred in Test matches between India and Australia. Clarke led from the front with a captain’s knock of 329*(468) runs with 39 fours and a six as Australia posted a mammoth 659/4 on board and won the Test match by an innings and 68 runs.
