6 players SRH can retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auctions

The franchises are geared up for the mega auction ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. With the new retention rules set by the BCCI, the franchises can now retain six players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. In case the franchises don’t retain any of their players, they can use six right-to-match (RTM) cards instead during the auction, which allow them to bring their best players back to the squad for the same price at which any other franchise makes a final bid.

With six retentions available ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchises can bring their back to their squad who have been a crucial part of the team over the years with their consistent performances. The franchises have been given a deadline of October 31, to send their player retention list. Here’s the possible retentions for the franchises ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction.

SRH possible retentions for IPL 2025 mega auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) brought fire to the IPL 2024 with their star-studded batting line-up. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave fiery starts as an opening pair, following which Heinrich Klaasen took charge of the middle order as SRH broke several batting records in IPL 2024, achieving the highest ever IPL total of 287 runs. After failing to qualify for the playoffs in the previous three editions, SRH finally had a great outing in IPL 2024 under skipper Pat Cummins, and made into the final in six years. However, they failed to lift the trophy for the second time after a one-sided match against Kolkata Knight Riders in the title clash.

Skipper Pat Cummins could be SRH’s first retention ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning captain was picked by the franchise for a whopping 20.50 crore INR in the previous auction. Cummins turned out to be an impactful addition in the SRH squad under whom the franchise finally qualified for the playoffs after three season along with making it into the finals after 2018. SRH can retain Pat Cummins at a price of INR 18 crore.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be another retention for SRH ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. The right-arm fast bowler has been a crucial players for SRH over the years, and has been a fast bowling spearhead for the franchise. Bhuvneshwar could be the second player to get retained for INR 18 crore by SRH for IPL 2025.

Travis Head

Australia’s Travis Head showed his beast mode in IPL 2024 with his fierce batting throughout the season. The right-hander amassed 567 runs from 15 matches at a deadly strike rate of 191.55. There could be no chance that SRH will let him go ahead of the mega auction. Head could get retained by SRH at a price of INR 14 crore at the very least.

Heinrich Klaasen

Heinrich Klaasen added a golden touch to the star-studded batting line up for SRH in IPL 2024. The Proteas batter scored 479 runs from 16 matches in the previous edition with a strike rate of 171.07. The right-hander can be an another player in SRH’s retention list at a salary of INR 14 crore.

Abhishek Sharma

Young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma could be another player in the retention list for SRH ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. The left-hander gave firing starts in the powerplay as an opening batter, and used to make quick 30s and 40s. Abhishek can be retained by SRH at a price of INR 11 crore.

Nitish Kumar Reddy

Sunrisers Hyderabad could have picked Nitish Kumar Reddy as an uncapped player ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the 21-year-old has already made his debut for India in the T20I series against Bangladesh, and SRH may release him before the auction. However, there will be still a chance for SRH to bring Nitish Kumar back in their squad by using right to match card in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
