In case the franchises don’t retain any of their players, they can use six right-to-match (RTM) cards instead during the auction, which allow them to bring their best players back to the squad for the same price at which any other franchise makes a final bid.

MS Dhoni
Former skipper MS Dhoni could be the first player to get retained by Chennai Super Kings if the wicket-keeper batter makes himself available for IPL 2025. With the new rules for the uncapped player, CSK can also retain Dhoni for ₹4 crore as he hasn’t player international cricket since 2019. Dhoni is among the most successful captains of IPL, who led CSK to five IPL titles. However, he stepped down from the role ahead of IPL 2024, passing the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad could be among the front runners who will be retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Gaikwad took over the charge as a skipper for CSK ahead of IPL 2024, and has been a consistent run-scorer for the franchise over the years. The right-hander has scored 2380 runs from 66 matches for CSK at an average of 41.75. The franchise could retain their captain at a price bracket of ₹14 crore.
Ravindra Jadeja
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is among the pivotal players for Chennai Super Kings over the years and could be among the confirmed retentions ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Jadeja has been one of the star performers for CSK with both bat and ball. He could be the second player to get retained by CSK at a price bracket of ₹18 crore.
Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube had his best time in the IPL while playing for Chennai Super Kings, and he has established himself as a crucial middle-order batter in the franchise in the last few years. The left-hander has amassed 1103 runs in 41 matches while playing for CSK in the IPL. Dube could be another player in CSK’s retention list ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction at a price bracket of ₹14 crore.
Matheesha Pathirana
Chennai Super Kings can retain Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana as an overseas player ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Pathirana has taken 34 wickets in 20 matches in his IPL career for CSK. The right-arm pacer could get a huge hike in his IPL salary as CSK can retain him at a price bracket of ₹11 crore.
Tushar Deshpande
Indian pacer Tushar Deshpande couldn’t be in CSK’s retention list for IPL 2025. However, the franchise can use the right to match card for him in the mega auction. Due to this, if any other team gets a final bid for Deshpande in the auction, CSK can take him for the same price using the RTM card.
