WATCH: Sune Luus suffers unlucky dismissal as Nat Sciver-Brunt runs her out in bizarre manner

England all-rounder, Nat Sciver-Brunt on Monday, October 7 inflicted a bizarre run-out during their seven-wicket win against South Africa in Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The England Women, who kick started their T20 World Cup campaign with a win over Bangladesh Women, got another win as they defeated South Africa on Monday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.

For the unversed, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. During their stipulated 20 overs, the side posted only 124 runs at the loss of six wickets, courtesy a 39-ball 42 from skipper Laura Wolvaardt. Sophie Ecclestone did the major damage as she finished with the figures of 2/15 in her four-over spell, while Linsey Smith, Charlie Dean and Sarah Glenn got a wicket each.

Nat Sciver-Brunt affects bizarre run-out to dismiss Sune Luus

During the South Africa innings, England pacer, Nat Sciver-Brunt affected a bizarre run-out, leaving everyone in awe of her football skills. On the first delivery of the penultimate over, Brunt bowled full at the stumps. However, Annerie Dercksen drilled it back to the bowler as the ball flicked her shoe, ricochetting the stumps.  Luus, who was at the non-striker’s end, crossed the crease while the ball dislodged the bails, suffering to an unlucky dismissal in the crucial Group B match. Soon after the bizarre run-out, the 32-year-old broke into impromptu dance. 

The English bowler finished her four-over spell, conceding 34 runs at an economy of 8.50 whereas she played a 36-ball 48-run unbeaten knock, helping the side seal victory. After England’s comprehensive win, the Heather Knight-led side sit at the top of the Group B standings with two wins in as many matches and a net run rate of +0.653. They will next take on Scotland Women on Sunday, October 13 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
