India Women had a disastrous start to their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign as they lost to New Zealand Women in a one-sided affair by 58 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 4. This defeat has left the Women in Blue reeling at the bottom-most spot in the Group A standings of the tournament, also putting their chances of reaching the semi-finals in jeopardy.
However, it was India Women’s first-ever instance of getting bundled out in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup, meanwhile the result also meant that the White Ferns ended their 10-match losing streak in T20Is.
How can India Women qualify for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final?
With a daunting defeat at the hands of New Zealand Women, the Women in Blue will hope to win all their remaining matches to enter the knockout stage of the marquee tournament. With three more matches remaining for Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, the wins also might not be enough to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR).

With India yet to face Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their group stage fixtures, chances of a win against the defending champions however are minimal. They would really hope either New Zealand wins all their games including a win over Australia. But, if Australia beats New Zealand, they need to hope that the White Ferns lose either to Sri Lanka or Pakistan. Although, they will look to register comprehensive wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka to better their NRR, but i f India fails to win against Pakistan Women or Sri Lanka Women, their chances of qualification will more or less come to an end.
