MS Dhoni has no desire to be treated as CSK’s No. 1 player: Ajay Jadeja

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been one of the most talked about players in the cricketing fraternity since the announcement of new retention rules by BCCI ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. With the new rules for the retention of uncapped players, there have been several reports which suggest that Chennai Super Kings can retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player as he hasn’t played international cricket for the last five years. The wicket-keeper batter announced his retirement from international cricket after playing his last match for India in 2019.

The fans are keen to watch MS Dhoni playing one more season of the IPL. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja shared his thoughts of CSK retaining Dhoni as an uncapped player. He said that MS Dhoni has contributed a lot for CSK throughout the years. Jadeja also named his list of probable players which CSK might retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction.

I don’t think CSK will retain five players: Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja has shared his opinions about CSK’s probable retention for IPL 2025. The former cricketer feels that CSK might only retain two to three players and not retain all five players. Jadeja picked MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad as probable retentions CSK in IPL 2025.

“MS Dhoni for sure. There’s no doubt about that, especially because he’s now an uncapped player. He’s done a lot for the team and has no desire to be treated as the No. 1 player on the squad. His value is unquestioned. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the captain, and he’s had a good year, so you’ll hope to retain him as well. Ravindra Jadeja can’t be left out either, so these three, I think, are perfect for them,” Ajay Jadeja was quoted as saying by Crictracker about CSK’s retention list.

“I don’t think they’ll (CSK) retain five players. They might go for 3-4. I see two players worth 18 crore in Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja. If you want to keep them, you have to match that price. Other than that, they have MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana. I think they’ll keep Dube and use the RTM card for Deepak Chahar, maybe, depending on his fitness. The price for these players is really high, so the RTM card could be useful to get players for cheaper. If Dube is sold in the auction, he might fetch over 10 or 11 crore,” he added.
