Mumbai are on their way to post a huge total against Rest of India in the ongoing fixture of the Irani Cup 2024. After losing early wickets on day one, Mumbai have now crossed 500 runs by the end of day two. The main star for Mumbai in the first innings was Sarfaraz Khan, who brought up his double hundred on the second day of the match. Mumbai scored 536/9 till stump on day two, with Sarfaraz being unbeaten on 221*(276) runs.
Coming to bat after losing the toss, Mumbai didn’t get a great start as they lost three wickets for just 37 runs. After that, skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer took charge of the innings and put up a partnership of 102 runs for the fourth wicket. Iyer got out after scoring 57 runs off 84 balls hitting six fours and two sixes. After that, Sarfaraz Khan joined Ajinkya Rahane on the crease as the duo added 131 runs before the loss of the fifth wicket.
Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane was looking in good touch with the bat and was all set to score a hundred against Rest of India in the ongoing match. However, the right-hander failed to reach the triple figure mark as he got out after scoring 97 runs off 234 balls, hitting seven fours and a maximum. Despite missing his hundred, Rahane put Mumbai in a comfortable position after early breakthroughs. After that, Sarfaraz Khan took charge of the innings.
Sarfaraz Khan added 193 runs along with Tanush Kotian (64 off 124) for the seventh wicket. After that, Sarfaraz went on to complete his double century in 253 balls. With this, he also became the first batter from Mumbai to score a double century in the Irani Cup. By the end of day two, Mumbai were 536/9, while Sarfaraz was still at the crease scoring 221 runs off 276 balls hitting 25 fours and four sixes.
