Star Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin once again shone in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Indian off-spinner, who stitched a crucial partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 to help India post a competitive score on the board, helped India get back in the game on Day 4 by completing a five-fer.
The 38-year-old early on Day 4, dismissed Shakib Al Hasan to get going for India. He completed his five-fer after he dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz with Yashasvi Jaiswal completing a brilliant catch. With this, he achieved a rare feat of completing a hundred as well as taking a five-wicket haul in the same game.
R Ashwin becomes first player to score 100 and complete five-fer twice at same venue
While this wasn’t the first time Ashwin achieved this feat as earlier in 2021 in a match against England, he scored a century along with completing a five-wicket haul in Chennai. On Sunday, September 22, meanwhile Ashwin became the first player to achieve this feat twice at the same venue as he completed six wickets as well as played a crucial knock of 113 runs off 133 deliveries.
Moreover, with his five-wicket haul, Ashwin also equalled late legend Shane Warne and former Sri Lanka star, Muttiah Muralitharan to complete seven five-wicket hauls in fourth innings of Tests. However, he stands just behind Rangana Herath’s 12. Furthermore, the record galore did not stop here as he also came close to Ian Botham’s record (5) of a century and a five-fer in the same Test most times.
R Ashwin’s records and numbers

The Indian off-spinner has also become the fastest to reach 250, 300 and 350 wickets in the world.
