Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant slammed his bat in anger after getting dismissed at 39 in the first Test against Bangladesh. India kicked off their Test season with a two-match series against Bangladesh at home. The first Test of the series began on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match saw Pant making his Test comeback after more than a year following his fatal accident in December 2022.
The young batter was forced to walk out to bat early after the home team lost three quick wickets in the form of skipper and opener Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. The home team was reduced to 34-3 inside the first hour owing to the bowling heroics by Hasan Mahmud. Pant, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal tried his best to give India some stability, Mahmud continued his magic and dismissed the Indian batter on 39 runs off 52 deliveries.
The 26-year-old wicketkeeper batter couldn’t resist his emotions when he was caught out by Litton Das off a Hasan Mahmud delivery, and ended up hitting the bat on to pad in anger. Notably, Pant returned to Test after an absence of 632 days. The last time the batter played for India in the whites was against Bangladesh in December 2022, a few days before meeting the fatal accident.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh skipper won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. The decision proved to be fruitful for the guests as India lost their few key players within the first few hours, including the likes of Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), Virat Kohli (6), and Rishabh Pant (39).
