Sable to join top-ranked steeplechasers on his Diamond League Final debut
The 29-year-old athlete finished 14th overall in the Diamond League standings with three points. But luck favoured him as four higher ranked athletes in the event, including Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma, New Zealand’s Geordie Beamish, Japan’s Ryui Mura and Hillary Bor from the USA will not be competing in the event. This gave an opportunity to Sable to feature in final list of 12 athletes.
Speaking of Sable, the 29-year-old earned his qualification in the final after earning points from two races. His standout performance came at the Paris edition on July 7, ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the Silesia leg of the Diamond League, Sable finished 14th with a timing of 8:29.96. AT the Paris Olympics, he became the first ever Indian to qualify for the Summer Games final in men’s 3000m steeplechase.
