Tyreek Hill detained briefly ahead of Miami Dolphins’ match at Hard Rock Stadium

Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Tyreek Hill on Sunday, September 8 was detained by the police outside the Hard Rock Stadium, just hours ahead of his side’s match against Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dolphins star player, who was on his way to the stadium, was charged and summoned for an alleged traffic violation.

In the videos going viral on social media, Hill was stopped by the police officials as four of them surrounded Hill and handcuffed him while he was put to the ground with one of the officials’ knee on his back. However, the series of incident for Hill’s violation remains unclear, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, he received a citation for reckless driving and driving without a license. 

Tyreek Hill reacts on the incident; says “I didn’t understand what the issue was”

Speaking after the incident, which led him in front of the police officials, addressed the situation after Miami’s 20-17 win over Jacksonville in the post-game interview. “Obviously, everybody has bad apples in every situation, so I want to be able to use this platform to figure out a way to flip this and make it a positive on both ends — on my end, and then also Miami-Dade — so that way we can team together and do something positive for the community, cause that’s what it’s all about,” he said in a postgame interview. 

Hill while adding that he has respect for police officers and wants to be one someday, also spoke of how he is still figuring out what “just happened”. “I’m not going to give you a version that I still don’t know what happened. But I do want to be able to use this platform to say, ‘What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?’” he added.

Moreover, the Miami-Dade Police Department also took to social media to highlight the incident adding that they will review body camera footage. Director of Miami-Dade Police Department, Stephanie Daniels stated, “I’m committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.”

Nothing could stop the Miami Dolphins wide receiver as he mimicked the handcuff celebration after a touchdown catch in his team’s season opener on Sunday, September 8. The 30-year-old NFL star earned a touchdown with an 80-yard pass, which he then marked with an unusual celebration, pretending to being handcuffed. 

He emulated the incident with his teammate, Jaylen Waddle, who pretended to be a police officer cuffing him, video of which is being going viral on social media.
