Former skipper of the England cricket team, Eoin Morgan, is celebrating his 38th birthday on September 10, 2024. Starting his international career as a player for Ireland, Morgan went on to become the only captain who led England to the ODI World Cup title five years ago. Eoin Morgan was great batter with over 7000 runs in ODIs and more than 2000 runs in the T20I format.
Eoin Morgan made his international debut for Ireland in an ODI match against Scotland at the Cambusdoon New Ground in Ayr on August 5, 2006. It turned out to be a memorable debut for Morgan, but he missed his maiden ODI hundred by just one. He scored 99(134) in his debut ODI, and won player of the match as Ireland won the match by 85 runs.
After 23 ODIs and 744 runs for Ireland, Eoin Morgan moved to England was became a part of England’s national cricket team ahead of the 2009 T20 World Cup. He made his debut for England in an ODI match against West Indies in Bristol on May 24, 2009. He was a part of the England’s squad that won their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2009.
Eoin Morgan Captaincy
Eoin Morgan was appointed as a full-time limited overs skipper of England ahead of the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia. However, it turned out to be a forgettable campaign for England as they were knocked out in the league stage. In his captaincy, England reached the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup, but it was Carlos Braithwaite who turned out to be a difference between England and the title with four sixes in the final over.
He also led England to the semi-final of the Champions Trophy in 2017. However, the hosts ended up losing against the eventual champions Pakistan in the semi-final. Morgan’s wait for his first title as an England captain finally came to an end when he led England to their first-ever ODI World Cup in front of their home crowd in 2019. He is currently the only ODI World Cup-winning captain for England.
Eoin Morgan bid adieu to international cricket in 2022 as he played his last game for England in an ODI match against Netherlands at Amstelveen on June 19, 2022. He went on to play 16 Tests, 248 ODIs and 115 T20Is in his international career amassing 10859 runs in all three formats combined.

Eoin Morgan boasts a record for smashing most sixes in an ODI innings. The former English skipper smashed 17 sixes during his 148-run knock against Afghanistan during the 2019 ODI World Cup fixture in Manchester on June 18.
Second highest partnership for fifth wicket in ODIs
Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara added 226 runs for the fifth wicket in an ODI match against Ireland in Dublin on September 3, 2013. It still remains the second highest partnership for for fifth wicket in ODI cricket.
