India on Tuesday, September 3 achieved its best-ever medal haul in the Paralympic Games as it went past its previous best of 19 medals, which was achieved at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020. Deepthi Jeevanji and Sharad Kumar’s medals in their respective games, along with Mariyappan Thangavelu, Ajeet Singh and Sundar Gurjar helped India set a new record highest medal wins at the Summer Paralympic Games.
The Indian track and field athletes showcased their mettle for the second consecutive day at the iconic Stade de France to add five medals – two silver and three bronze as India ended Day 6 of the Games at 18th position in the overall medal tally. At the Tokyo 2020 paralympic Games, India had won five gold, eight silver and six bronze medals, totaling to 19.
Moreover, on Day 6 of the Games, Bhagyashri Mahavrao and Avani Lekhara finished fifth in the women’s shot put F34 category final and women’s 50m air rifle 3 positions SH1 final respectively. Pooja Khanna also bowed out of the Games after her quarterfinals defeat in women’s individual recurve open.
