In a statement released by the San Francisco 49ers, their wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is in a “stable condition” in hospital after sustaining a bullet wound to his chest. The incident happened on a Saturday afternoon, August 31, in downtown San Francisco during an attempted robbery following which the suspect, a 17-year-old man from Tracy, California, was arrested according to the San Francisco Police.
As per the report from ESPN, there was a 911 call made at 3:38 PM local time, reporting shots being fired at the corner of Geary and Grant street, very close from the San Francisco Union Square, according to the city’s fire department. Ricky Pearsall was at the location of the incident after signing autographs at an event centre earlier.
The San Francisco Police Department revealed that Ricky Pearsall was in a physical altercation with the suspect during an attempted robbery before both got injured. Later on, Pearsall and the suspect were transported to the San Francisco General Hospital.

The statement from the San Francisco 49ers about the incident read, “San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon. He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition. We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said in a statement, “Thankfully, our hard-working officers made a swift arrest in this case and we will do everything within our power to ensure justice is served.”
