Indian shooter Manish Narwal clinched silver in men’s 10m air pistol event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on Friday, August 30. With his medal, Manish became the only sixth Indian athlete to win multiple medals in the history of Summer Paralympic Games. Narwal scored a total of 234.9 points to finish second in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 final at Chateauroux. Manish’s medal increased India’s medal tally to four in the current edition of the tournament.
The Indian shooter struggled during the first stage of the finale as he started the summit clash with 8.8 points on his first attempt. However, the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist made a solid comeback and finished second on the podium. South Korea’s Jeongdu Jo finished on top and took home the gold medal with a score of 237.4 while Chao Yang of China finished third to win a bronze.
In the final battle, the Indian shooter came up with 8.9 points while his South Korean hit 10.8 and gained the lead. In the last attempt, the 23-year-old had an upper hand with 9.9 points and Jo came up with 8.8 points. However, the Indian shooter had to finish second due to his poor first attempt.
Earlier in the day, shooter Avani Lekhara defended her Tokyo 2020 gold medallist while Mona Agarwal clinched bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event to open India’s medal account at the current edition. Not only this, but Preethi Pal claimed bronze and ended India’s wait for the first Paralympics medal in the 100m event.
