England Test captain Ben Stokes is looking forward to making his national team return “sooner rather than later.” During an interview with the ECB, the 33-year-old, who is currently rehabilitating from a hamstring tear, spoke about making slow progress during his time alongside the English Test setup during their ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
During a match in the men’s Hundred competition nearly three weeks ago, while playing for Northern Superchargers, Ben Stokes suffered a tear in his left hamstring. It meant that he was ruled out of the ongoing three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, but under Ollie Pope’s captaincy, England won the first match at Old Trafford convincingly.
Ahead of the second England versus Sri Lanka Test match at the Lord’s in London, Ben Stokes has been batting in the nets, looking to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.
I want to get back as quick as I possibly can: Ben Stokes
In a sit-down interview with the ECB, posted on their official X account, Ben Stokes said, “I’m all good, just slowly progressing. It’s still very early days in the rehab period… I want to get back as quick as I possibly can, so being around the medical team here with physio and doctors, I thought that was going to give myself the best chance of getting back sooner rather than later.”
After being ruled out of the remaining England matches in the ongoing summer, Ben Stokes can possibly make his England return during the three-match series in Pakistan. The first Test is scheduled to begin at the Multan Cricket Stadium from October 7.
