The International Cricket Council (ICC) is a governing body which controls cricket globally. Since its foundation in 1909, there have been several people who served as office bearers in the ICC in multiple roles. There are also a few Indians who are in the list of ICC office bearers throughout the years.
Recently, Jay Shah, who is the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been now elected as a Chairman of the ICC. His tenure will begin from December 1, 2024. However, Jay Shah is not the first-ever Indian to be elected for a designated role in ICC. List of Indians who have been appointed as ICC Chairmen
Jagmohan Dalmiya – ICC President (1997-2000)
Jagmohan Dalmiya was a businessman and the former President of the ICC. His served as the ICC President from 1997 to 2000. He also served as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal twice. After that, Dalmiya went on to serve as the BCCI President in 2015.
Sharad Pawar – ICC President (2010-2012)
Sharad Pawar is an Indian politician and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He has served multiple roles during the tenure of the INC government from 2004 to 2014. Sharad Pawar was also the second Indian to become the ICC President. His served as the ICC President for two years, from 2010 to 2012.
N.Srinivasan – ICC Chairman (2014-2015)
N. Srinivasan is an Indian industrialist, who has also served in administration in Indian cricket and was the first Indian to become the ICC Chairman. He served as a President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association from 2002-2017. Srinivasan was also the BCCI Secretary from 2008 to 2011 and went on to become the BCCI President from 2011 to 2013. After that, he took over the role as the ICC Chairperson on June 26, 2014 and his tenure lasted till November 22, 2015.
Shashank Manohar – ICC Chairman (2015-2020)
Shashank Manohar is a lawyer and the former President of the BCCI. He served as a BCCI President twice from 2008 to 2011 and then 2015 to 2016. Manohar has also served as the ICC Chairman from November 22, 2015 to June 30, 2022.
Jay Shah – ICC Chairman (December 1, 2024)
Jay Shah is the new ICC Chairman, appointed on Tuesday, August 27 and his tenure will begin from December 1, 2024. He is an Indian businessman and son of Indian politician, Amit Shah, who is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as the Secretary from 2019 to 2024. Apart from that, he is also the President of Asian Cricket Council, since January 2021.
