India’s young and dynamic batter, Rinku Singh opened up on Team India’s former T20I skipper, Rohit Sharma’s advice after he was snubbed from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. The Indian batter, who has been on an impressive run, was instead named as a reserve player for the marquee tournament, which was played in the USA and West Indies in June this year.
Although, this decision of the men’s selection committee to drop Rinku Singh from the 15-member squad did garner a lot of discussion, but recently, the 26-year-old opened up on the advice he received from batting stalwart, Rohit Sharma. Rinku recounted Rohit’s advice, emphasizing the opportunities that the future holds for him.
“Haan woh (Rohit Sharma) aaye the samjane ki koi baat nahi, teri umar hi kya hai. World Cup aage bohot hai. Mehnat karte reh. Har do saal mein World Cup aata hai, uspe dhyaan de. Koi dikkat nahi hai, pareshan mat ho [He came to me and made me understand that it was okay; you are still very young. There will be many World Cups in the future. Keep working hard. There is a World Cup every two years, so focus on that. Don’t be disappointed],” Rinku Singh quoted Rohit Sharma in the interview in News24.
It is to be understood that 37-year-old stressed that age is on Rinku Singh’s side and asserted that he has a chance to shine on the world stage with the efforts he has been putting in.
Neither MS Dhoni nor Virat Kohli! Rinku Singh picks his favourite captain
The Indian batting sensation, Rinku Singh further picked his favourite captain. But what was shocking was that he did not name Virat Kohli, or MS Dhoni as his favourite captain, but rather went with Rohit Sharma. “Rohit bhaiya pasand hai kaptaani mei (I like Rohit Sharma’s captaincy). Aur Virat bhaiya kyuki aggression bahut jaruri hota hai kaptaani mein, team ko lekar chalna, toh unki kaptaani bhi kafi achi thi (Virat Kohli because aggression is very important in captaincy, so his leadership was also very good),” Rinku said on News 24.
Rinku also named his favourite batter and bowlers during the interview with News24. “Raina bhi aur sabke he favourite hai Rohit bhaiya, unke paas itna time hai khlene hai, Virat bhaiya, Surya bhai. Alag hai vo ekdum, vo aise shot maarte hai ki koi maar he nahi sakta (I like Raina, and Rohit is everyone’s favourite because he has so much time to play, Virat, and Surya. He is different, and the kind of shots he plays, no one else can),” he said. The 26-year-old further went on to pick Jasprit BUmrah as his favourite bowler and called him everyone’s favourite.
