During an exclusive interview, the Australian fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood, hyped up the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series against India at home. The 33-year-old spoke about how many of his teammates in the Australian lineup haven’t beaten India in a Test series, which is something they want to “tick off” later this year.
Notably, India have managed to defeat Australia 2-1 in the last four Test series, both at home and in away conditions twice. Although these four series involved four Test matches each, the upcoming edition of the BGT is slated to be five Test matches long, beginning on November 22, at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Josh Hazlewood hypes up Border-Gavaskar Trophy
While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Josh Hazlewood said, “There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series. It’s quite astounding to say that. That’s one we need to tick off, definitely, in particular at home – we should pretty much win every series here at home.”
India have got unbelievable depth in all formats: Josh Hazlewood
The New South Welshman also spoke about how they dominated India during the early stages of the 2020-21 home Test series, only to lose it monumentally at the very end. He said, “That last series we obviously bowled them out for 36 in Adelaide and we thought here we go, (we are) back at home (and) confident on these grounds. People say we played India B in that last Test, but they can sometimes be stronger than the best team. They’ve got unbelievable depth in all formats and we are starting to see that now.”
Moreover, Josh Hazlewood was a part of the last Australian team to win a Test series against India during the 2014-15 season. On that very occasion, Australia secured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-0 margin after playing four Test matches.
