Indian archer Bhajan Kaur advanced to the Round of 32 by beating Indonesia’s Syifa Nurafifah Kamal on Tuesday, July 30. Kaur won three sets to two in a five-set match and qualified for further stage of the multi-sporting tournament. Even while Kaur advanced to the next round, India had mixed results in the same event as Ankita Bhakat lost to Poland’s Wioleta Mysore in the round of 64.
Kaur started the match with a tie in the first set and scored 9,8 and 10 for a total of 27. Her rival, Syifa also scored three 9s, for a tie of 27. The Indonesian made her comeback in the second set with a total of 29, while Bhajan could come up with only 27 points and gave her counterpart the set win. The Indian archer found her lost momentum and won the third set with a margin of 2 points.
By this point, the scores were tied at 3-3. The 18-year-old continued her strong performance and scored 9s and 10s to register a victory in the fourth set. With this, she recorded the score 5-3 and went on to win the decider and secured a win in the fifth set 7-3. On the other hand, Ankita lost the same event to Poland’s Wioleta Mysore. She started the first set with a score of 26 and shot 9,8, and 9 while failing to score a 10.
In the second set, she made a solid comeback in the second set and scored two 10s and one 9. Ankita continued her strong form and won the third set 28-27; however, her rival made a comeback and won the fourth set 29-27 and eventually lost the decider 4-6. In the final set, Ankita scored 9,9,9 and totalled 27 while her rival scored 28, and won the game.
