On Monday, July 29, Arjun Babuta, the Indian shooter, missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 by a close margin in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event. He finished in fourth place in the final after scoring a disappointing 9.5 on his last shot in the event at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, which is a three-hour drive away from Paris.
Born on January 24, 1999, in the Jalalabad village in the Fazilka district of Punjab, close to the India-Pakistan border, Arjun Babuta moved to Chandigarh to become a shooter after completing his primary education. He earned an undergraduate degree from DAV College in Chandigarh a few years ago, while getting his teeth into the world of shooting.
Arjun Babuta was picked for the Indian national shooting team in 2016, and it led to a plethora of success for him in international events. The first major title of his career came in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team event at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2016 in Gabala apart from taking home the individual bronze medal.
In the World University Games 2021 in Chengdu, Arjun Babuta was a part of the Indian team that won a gold medal in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event. He started to earn success at the senior level in 2022, winning gold medals in individual and team events at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon.
Despite missing out on a medal at the Paris 2024, Arjun Babuta is heading into the prime years of his shooting career. This result could fuel him to greater success in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle events at the international level in times to come.
