Paris Olympics 2024 Tennis: Novak Djokovic defeats Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-1, 6-4

On Monday, July 29, Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion from Serbia, registered a big win in straight sets against Rafael Nadal in the second round of the men’s singles event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Spanish tennis star did put up a fight in the second set before going down 6-1, 6-4 against Novak Djokovic on the Court Philippe Chartier.

Rafael Nadal, who had been plagued with injuries in the last couple of years, looked a pale shadow of his former self for most of the match against Novak Djokovic in Paris. In the first set, the Serbian broke the serve of Rafael Nadal twice to run into a 4-0 lead before serving it out with a 6-1 scoreline.

The start of the second set was quite similar to the first one when Djokovic broke the serve of the Spaniard twice, to lead by 4-0. But then, Nadal converted the first break point opportunity presented to him to keep himself alive in the men’s singles event at Paris 2024.

It led to Rafael Nadal breaking Novak Djokovic’s serve again, to level the second set at 4-4. The ninth game of the second set saw the Serbian convert a breakpoint on the fourth time of asking before serving out the set and the match at 6-4.  Notably, Rafael Nadal is still a part of the men’s doubles event at the Paris Olympics 2024 alongside his fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
