MS Dhoni likely to play IPL 2025

Former India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one name which features in several different lists, be it most World Cup wins for India, star finisher or any other. The 43-year-old might have called curtains to his international career in 2020, but his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains one of the biggest questions to be answered.

However, there have been speculations on MS Dhoni playing his last IPL every time the tournament nears, but the answer to this remains only with the man. As there have been talks between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the ten IPL franchises, on several factors ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, one of the biggest questions which arises for the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings will be whether to retain MS Dhoni or not.

Although, the stalwart has time and again spoken about playing for CSK always, Dhoni has reportedly discussed his IPL future with N Srinivasan, the owner of the franchise. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Dhoni’s retention is likely to depend on the number of retentions that BCCI will allow. The 43-year-old has communicated that if BCCI allows franchises to retain five or six players, Dhoni could continue to feature in the IPL.

BCCI to meet on July 31 to decide on IPL retentions, Impact Player rule, Right-To-Match: Reports

The much-awaited meeting between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL franchises is set to take place in the coming week to discuss some key topics ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Although, the exact venue of the meeting is not yet confirmed, the concerned bodies will take a call on the Right To Match, Impact Player rule and even retention, which has been a key concern for the franchises.

IPL CEO Hemang Amin conveyed the information through text messages to the franchise owners on July 25 morning and confirmed that a formal invite with the venue and timing, would follow. According to Cricbuzz, the IPL CEO revealed that the meeting would occur in the late afternoon or evening on July 31 and all owners are set to be available.
