With a lot of talks going around the Indian Premier League, majority of the franchises are looking to do some massive changes to their team, including the coaching setup. While Gujarat Titans have opted to move on from head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki, the Punjab Kings too are looking to part ways with Trevor Bayliss.
According to a report by the Indian Express, Punjab Kings are set to name former India opener, Wasim Jaffer as their head coach. Moreover, this move comes after the Punjab-based franchise have decided not to renew Trevor Bayliss’ contract in the IPL. Bayliss has been the head coach of the side for two editions of the IPL.
With Wasim Jaffer reportedly making his return with the Punjab-based franchise, he could serve for his third stint, previously being the batting coach from 2019 to 2021, followed by a stint as batting consultant in IPL 2023.
Speaking of the Shikhar Dhawan-led side, which saw him miss majority of the matches due to an injury in IPL 2024, finished at ninth place with only five wins from 14 league stage matches. In the absence of Dhawan, the side were led by England all-rounder Sam Curran for majority of the season. Harshal Patel finished as the Purple Cap winner with 24 wickets from 14 matches at an economy rate of 9.73.
