French Alps to host 2030 Winter Olympics, confirms IOA

With the 2024 Paris Olympics just days away from start, the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday, July 24 confirmed that the French Alps will be the host of the next 2030 Winter Olympics. Moreover, this confirmation from the IOC comes after French President, Emmanuel Macron vouched his full support.

This decision from the ICC was announced after Macron pledged to the IOC members that the incoming Prime Minister will offer “guarantee” for hosting the event. Furthermore, it is to be noted that France stood as the lone contender to host the Winter Olympics 2030, but is under cloud surrounding funding due to the absence of a government.

“I want to confirm my full commitment and full commitment of the French nation,” said Macron. “I assure you I will ask the next Prime Minister to include not only this guarantee but also an Olympic law in the priorities of the new government,” he further added ahead of the Paris 2024.

The Alps are world’s largest interconnected ski area which covers over 600km between Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens. “The vision of the Games is to unite the north and south French Alps and make them a hub for winter sport, to bring maximum social and economic benefits to communities across a wide geographical area while aligning the Games with local development plans and Olympic Agenda 2020 and 2020+5,” the IOC said in a statement.
