Lovlina Borgohain, one of the top pugilists in India, is a prime contender to win a medal for the country in the 75kg weight category at the Paris 2024. The 26-year-old qualified through to the Olympic Games after becoming a world champion for the first time in her career in Delhi last year.
At the Tokyo 2020, Lovlina Borgohain became the second Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics after Mary Kom, clinching bronze in the 69kg weight category. She went on to win the gold medal at the Asian Championships in 2022 in Amman before bringing home a silver medal from Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou.
Before that, the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham was a disappointing campaign for Lovlina Borgohain in the 69kg weight category, losing to the eventual champion in the quarter-final stage. But amidst the successes and failures, the Assamese-born boxer has stayed true to herself, to find herself among the best puglists India has ever produced.
The upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games is going to be a test of the will and determination of Lovlina Borgohain to step up to her own expectations and make the country proud. Some of the top opponents the 26-year-old could face in Paris include names like Li Qian of China, Cindy Ngamba of the Refugee Olympic Team, and Khadija El-Mar of Morocco.
The change in her weight category in the lead-up to Paris 2024 is yet another massive hurdle for Lovlina Borgohain to conquer in her quest to win back-to-back medals at the Olympic Games later this month.
