With India being crowned the T20 World Champions at the T20 World Cup last month, the Men in Blue will eye to settle for another ICC trophy with the Champions Trophy being the next main event. However, with the ICC Champions Trophy set to be played in Pakistan in February-March 2025, India’s participation still hangs in doubt.
The two arch-rivals, who haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012-13, have only featured in multi-team events since then. However, it is to be seen if India will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. However, the decision relies on the Indian government, a source told SportsTak that India might not travel for the tournament until it takes place in a hybrid model.
According to a report published by SportsTak, the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy. However, none of the official board members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have opened up on it, the source further added, “While the details of the tournament have not yet been discussed, it is highly unlikely that the Indian team will travel to Pakistan.”
“Ultimately, the decision rests with the Indian government. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to raise this issue at the upcoming ICC meeting in Sri Lanka this month,” SportsTak quoted a source as saying. “The government’s decision on this matter will be final, as we have not yet confirmed it internally. Since this is an ICC event, we do not have the authority to make any unilateral decisions. However, more details may emerge during the next ICC meeting,” he added.
