India, under the captaincy of young dynamic batter Shubman Gill kicked off their Zimbabwe assignment on Saturday, July 6. India and Zimbabwe clashed in the first of five-match T20I series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The squad comprises of young and promising faces with several new faces as senior players have been given rest after a victorious T20 World Cup 2024.
A senior and more experienced Indian squad, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, won the T20 World Cup 2024 by edging past South Africa in the final by seven runs. The trophy ended India’s 11-year-long ICC trophy drought as well as the T20 World Cup drought after 17 long years.
Despite India’s victory at the T20 World Cup 2024, Shubman Gill-led side was spotted wearing jersey with only one star. Notably, the ICC mega-spectacle ended on June 29, and by that time India’s squad for Zimbabwe Tour had left for Harare. Due to the packed schedule and less time between T20 World Cup and the five-match series, BCCI are likely to have printed the jerseys before the finale and handed it out to the team before India won their second ICC silverware.
As the series was planned in foreign land, there was no time to re-print the new jersey and send them away. However, it cannot be said that there are no possibilities of the team wearing jerseys with two stars later in the series.
