Talismanic India batter and former captain Virat Kohli got emotional while addressing the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium. On Thursday, July 4, Rohit Sharma and Co. returned to India after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team received a warm welcome as they landed in New Delhi, where they met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over breakfast. Later, the team travelled to Mumbai for a grand welcome that the BCCI had planned for the 2024 world champions.
The team received a grand welcome and greeted fans in an open-bus victory parade at Marine Drive in Mumbai. Later, a felicitation ceremony took place at the Wankhede Stadium where star batter Virat Kohli addressed the crowd, and while doing so, he got emotional. The 35-year-old spoke about the victory parade and said, “This is something that I am never going to forget.”
He recalled an emotional moment from the T20 World Cup 2024 victory where he hugged an emotional Rohit Sharma. Kohli said, “When I was walking up the stairs, I was crying. Rohit was crying, we’ll never forget that moment. Rohit and I have been trying this for so long. We always wanted to win a World Cup. Bringing the trophy back to Wankhede is a very special feeling”.

The modern-day batting icon lauded Jasprit Bumrah and heaped praise on him for his key contribution during the ICC tournament and hailed him a “once-in-a-generation bowler”. The cricketer said, “Even we thought man would it slip away again? There was one guy who kept bringing us back in the game again and again and again and again.” He added, “In those last five overs, bowling two of last five, it was phenomenal.”
