The T20 World Cup 2024 has reached its Super 8 stage after the conclusion of an exciting league stage across the USA and the Caribbean. The next phase of the marquee tournament will begin from Wednesday, June 19 with co-hosts USA taking on South Africa in the Group 2 clash in Antigua.
Furthermore, India will begin their Super 8 on Thursday, June 20 as they take on Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. However, ahead of this clash, the Rohit Sharma-led Team India are grueling hard in the nets, glimpses of which were shared on X by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In the video which the BCCI captioned “Into the Super8s. Captain Rohit Sharma speaks ahead of the Super 8s as #TeamIndia prepare for the next stage in the nets”, the members of the side including the likes of Virat Kohli, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah were seen sweating out in the nets.
We will look to focus a lot more on our skills and what needs to be done as a team: Rohit Sharma
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, who is reportedly leading the side in his final T20 World Cup, also opened up on the team preparation ahead of the Super 8s. The Men in Blue will play their first match of the ongoing World Cup 2024 in the West Indies after they concluded the league stage in the USA.
“There is real keenness in the group to go and do something special. You know that’s a good way to start our second stage of the tournament. Clearly shows that everybody wants to make a difference and obviously we take our skills sets quite seriously. There is something to achieve in every skill set that you do,” Rohit Sharma said.
“Once we play our first game, we are playing the next two in a span of 3 or 4 days. It’s going to be a little hectic and again we all are used to all of this. We travel a lot, we play a lot, so that’s never going to be an excuse. We will look to focus a lot more on our skills and what needs to be done as a team rather than all of this. Every session then really becomes very important and to make the best use of it,” he further added.
