Suryakumar Yadav (49 balls vs USA, 2024)
India veteran Suryakumar Yadav recorded one of the slowest fifties in the tournament’s history and the slowest by an Indian in a T20 World Cup game. His knock came against World Cup debutants USA in the 2024 edition game played at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. While Yadav’s knock helped his side record the third straight win in the tournament, the batter ended up with an unwanted record.
David Hussey (49 balls vs England, 2010)
In the 2010 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Australia’s David Hussey scored a fifty in 49 deliveries against the Ashes rivals, England. Hussey came in at 8/3 and put in a significant knock. However, despite his efforts, the Kangaroos scored 147 runs with the loss of six wickets and lost the game to England by seven wickets.
Devon Smith (49 balls vs Bangladesh, 2007)
Former West Indies opener Devon Smith took 49 deliveries to record his half-century in the 2007 T20 World Cup fixture against Bangladesh in Joburg. The opener came up with a knock of 51 runs in 52 deliveries. His knock helped the side finish at 164 runs for the loss of eight wickets. However, it didn’t prove to be enough as Bangladesh ended up winning the game by six wickets.
David Miller (50 balls vs Netherlands, 2024)
South Africa cricketer David Miller came up with a slow yet crucial fifty to help the side register a win over the Netherlands in the 16th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. South Africa were chasing 104 and were reduced to 12 for four. However, Miller’s unbeaten 59 off 51 deliveries, along with Tristan Stubbs helped them win the game with 106/6.
Mohammad Rizwan (52 balls vs Canada, 2024)
Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan scored his half-century in 52 deliveries during the clash against Canada in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup. After Saim Ayub’s early exit, Rizwan teamed up with skipper Babar Azam for a 63 run-stand. He came up with 53* runs off 52 balls at the Nassau County Stadium to win the game with 107/3 in 17.3 overs.
